Default AutoGP aka A1GP spin-off - 25th Nov 09, 09:24

A new series is being launched in Italy using the Lola chassis used by A1GP prior to its most recent championship. Jarek Janis and Khalil Beschir, a couple of former A1GP racers, were among the 22 drivers who tested the cars (re-tuned by Coloni Motorsport) in Italy last week.

Its has not been made absolutely official but, yes, A1GP is currently out of money and the season is being cancelled race by race. I think the hope was the someone would come in and buy the equipment and revive the championship or start another championship but alas this has yet to materialise, therefore for all intents and purposes A1GP is dead. Its a shame really as I always liked the series, it gave something to follow in the off-season too, now there is only GP2 Asia Series which isnt really a true winter series, it just tags on the end and start of the season to fill the gap created by the shorter regular GP2 season.
